Glenmuir Alumni Association - South Florida Chapter - The Beginnings |

| How it all began….
Well, it was a wonderful conversation with a past classmate
of mine. It was really great to be reacquainted with Karl and Vindella
by phone. We were re-connected through ackee.com.
I was residing in Orlando and both Karl and Vindella were in South Florida.
Well, I had a brilliant idea: Why don’t we meet over lunch one day
and reunite for ‘ole time sake? It was a unanimous decision. But
wait..…there were other graduates from Class of ’86 living
in the South Florida area; why not invite them too? Another great idea
and so the planning began...
Vindella was at the helm of the planning and boy, did she really get
this thing a rolling. The luncheon for Class of ’86 GHS South Floridians
began to take form and was quickly taking shape. We decided to advertise
on ackee.com and that’s where the fun began.
Graduates from other GHS era began to e-mail expressing their desire
to be a part of this event, many with whom we were not familiar but we
would not turn away a past Glenmuirite!. Perish the thought! We decided
this was to be a ‘Glenmuir affair’ and conceded in making
this a ‘GHS’ South Florida Reunion.
With the tireless effort of both Vindella and Debbie, this
became a reality on Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Bahama
Breeze Restaurant in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
We had a grand time! New friendships were formed, friends got reacquainted,
shared in all the GHS gossips, laughed at GHS memorable moments. Someone
even shared pictures from Glenmuir days…(and did I mention the food
was good?!!!!). We had a hard time leaving the restaurant’s parking
lot….We were so enjoying each other’s company.
A few of the attendees were quite united in their effort in keeping the
spirit of GHS alive in South Florida, and a few months later the Glenmuir
High School Past Students Association (South Florida Chapter) was formed…and
is getting stronger as we speak.
So what started out as a luncheon with former classmates,
became a wonderful association of exceptionally fine friends-GHS
friends that is….
